Don makes segmented bowls and serving platters that are beautiful
and practical. Most of his turnings incorporate South Western designs in the
body of the bowl. The bowl pictured above has a "food safe" finish and is
designed to be used as a serving bowl for your favorite salad. The light
colored wood is Eastern Maple and the the darker red/brown wood is an exotic
wood called Padauk. He also makes serving platters which are food safe. Salad bowls range from about 9 to 12 inches in diameter and around 4 to 5
inches deep. Serving platters vary from 12 to 14 inches in diameter.
In addition to Eastern Maple and Padauk, Don also works with American Red Cherry, Black Walnut, Zebrawood, Purple Heart and Gaboon Ebony.
Don makes decorator bowls too. Most of the decorator bowls have designs built into them. All of his bowls have the original Norwegian spelling (Gjovaag) burned into the bottom.
